Professional info
I manage online services for a Washington, D.C. nonprofit institute. My roots are in trade journalism and wireless technology; my training is in usability and interaction design, and my daily work involves setting up and running web content management systems.
I’m the author of Wireless Spectrum Finder, published by McGraw-Hill and called “the bible of the wireless industry” by the Wall Street Journal. This book was also known as SpectrumGuide.
During 2002-2005 I published safety materials for the aviation maintenance field. Previously, I was a technology analyst at the Civil Rights Forum on Communications Policy; editor of the first periodicals for the mobile phone industry; and founder of a newsletter devoted to FCC regulatory topics. This publication was later acquired by Telecommunications Reports International.
My consulting clients have included major corporations, startups, associations, publishers, engineering and law firms.
In the 90s I co-founded an association for electronics manufacturers and served as its executive director. Products based on our work now dominate the market.
What I Do for Fun
After hours, I practice Qigong, listen to ska music and spend time with friends in meetups, online and on the air. I hold Extra Class FCC amateur radio license AK4AV.
I like to juggle. I helped start the Congress of Jugglers, an annual convention usually held at the University of Maryland.
